The Ambition

The aim of this blog is simple; compile a list of all the stitches the world has ever known and chart their course through history to how we use them today.

My mission is to produce on-going articles upon this blog in order to look at how each stitch became popular, how they are best used, in which culture's they are used most and how they are being used today, or how they fell out of use.

I wish to recreate examples of each stitch by my own hand and hopefully further down the line produce how-to guides so that you can have a go at home, with either myself or guest stitchers providing patterns or ideas on how best to use them.

Why?

I find myself asking that very question even as I type this. I think the simple answer is, I'm a stitcher and I am very curious.

The, possibly better, longer answer is; I want to combine my loves of writing, research and history with my other loves of sewing, crafting and home-made.
